This programme is provided for children from 8 years old upwards and for adults of all ages.
There are two main components of this programme.
Davis Orientation Counselling: We show the
individual how to capitalise on their visual style of learning and thinking and
how to use it to overcome their learning difficulties.
Davis Symbol Mastery: Using clay (plasticine), individuals work
with the alphabet, punctuation marks and 'trigger' words (the short abstract words), frequently encountered in
reading. These words cause problems when the dyslexic individual cannot form a mental picture to go along with them.
Through Symbol Mastery, the individual makes a three-dimensional clay model of the meaning of each word, together with
a model of the letters of the words. With this approach, learning is permanent.
This programme is provided for children aged 5 to 8 years of age. The child is provided with the skills necessary to develop reading fluency and comprehension. The programme is conducted on a one to one basis. The parent or the child’s support person participates in at least half of the programme time in helping the child with their new skills and techniques.
The Davis Dyslexia Correction Programme is the core programme for clients with dyspraxia (balance and co-ordination) and dysgraphia (handwriting issues).
Dyspraxia (balance and co-ordination)
The
Dyspraxia programme includes all the elements of the dyslexia programme with an
emphasis on balance and co-ordination.
Following the programme, many individuals report that it is the first time in their lives that they have felt ‘in balance’.
Dysgraphia (handwriting issues)
The
Dysgraphia programme includes all the elements of the dyslexia programme with
an emphasis on handwriting. We identify the root causes of the individual's handwriting difficulties and, using the Davis tools, help them to write clearly and fluently.
